Africa-Press – Cape verde. The African Party of the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) today denounced what it considers “systematic and intentional withholding of information” and accused the government of hiding reports to protect people with political and party affinities.
The complaint was made today by the leader of the PAICV parliamentary group, João Baptista Pereira, during a political statement in parliament on “transparency in the management of public resources in Cabo Verde”, during which he spoke in particular of the reports of the General Inspectorate of Finance on the Environment Fund and the Tourism Fund from 2017 to 2020.
“For the PAICV parliamentary group, the public funds, which move millions of escudos annually, such as the Environment Fund and the Tourism Fund should be subject to demanding management and accountability regimes,” said João Baptista Pereira.
The deputy said that it is the PAICV’s understanding that it is time for the government to stop the “mere rhetoric” and demonstrate, unequivocally, through concrete actions, its commitment to transparency in the management of the meagre public resources of the Cabo Verdean state.
