Africa-Press – Cape verde. In the municipality of Paul, in Santo Antão, thousands of faithful participated yesterday afternoon, June 12, in the pilgrimage of Santo António das Pombas. Devotees walked ten kilometers between Cabo da Ribeira and the city of Pombas.
The pilgrimage began around 2 pm and ended five hours later, in the square of the Church of Santo António, in the city of Pombas.
Along the way, pilgrims, in addition to carrying the image of Santo António das Pombas on their shoulders, also brought with them various offerings, as a form of thanks to the saint or to “pay” some promise. The journey was accompanied by the sound of the drum.

Ary Rodrigues, a devotee and regular figure every year on the pilgrimage, told Inforpress that participating in this ceremony is a “unique” feeling and he cannot explain it, which is why he advised that everyone should do it.
Nelson, who is a drummer, said that participating in the pilgrimage by playing drums is an old tradition in his family and, therefore, he participates every year.
In turn, Father José Júlio Fortes said that the pilgrimage went very well and there were moments of spirituality and culture along the way.
“We are quite satisfied, although there are things that no matter how hard we try to do we cannot, but we feel that Santo António has its human frame and it is up to us only to welcome and thank God, such as devotion and pilgrimage to Santo António”, he pointed out. .
The high point of the party takes place today, the 13th, with the celebration of the solemn mass, competition of drummers and coladeiras, end of horse races and vervain dance at the multipurpose Bunzim.
