Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, congratulated the municipality of Paul, predicting successes and highlighting its “intrinsic resilience”. For the Head of State, the municipality has challenges ahead, including growth of the local GDP to numbers “close to the national figure”.
José Maria Neves cita como desafios o desencravamento de localidades, melhoria de caminhos vicinais, combate ao desemprego e a promoção do PIB per capita local “para cifras que se aproximem da média nacional”.
“Aproveito esta oportunidade para incitar os paulenses e os seus dignos representantes a prosseguirem na ingente luta pelo desenvolvimento do Paul e pela melhoria das condições de vida dos seus habitantes, como forma de contrariar a atual tendência de perda da população, nomeadamente, a mais jovem, e o consequente aumento da percentagem de idosos residentes”, reflete ainda o mais alto Magistrado da Nação na missiva ao autarca paulense.
Notwithstanding the other great challenge of connecting the Ilha das Montanhas, with regard to air transport, with the construction of a new local airport being an old ambition of the islanders of Santo Antão, President Neves says he is convinced “that the Paul will know how to base his progress on his enormous potential, mainly in the sectors of agribusiness, cultural and nature tourism, underwater fishing, as well as other activities linked to the ocean”.
