Africa-Press – Cape verde. The ASA Stars da Praia team was crowned, this Sunday, 02, two-time national champion in men’s handball, by beating Girassol by 24-23, in the final played at the Seixal pavilion, in the city of Sal-Rei, on the island of Boa Vista .
The team from the Achada de Santo António neighborhood adds this achievement to the title won last year against Académica da Boa Vista, in the final played at the Vavá Duarte pavilion, in Cidade da Praia.
ASA Stars thus achieved its second national championship, in two disputed finals, and Girassol reached a final for the first time, in its debut year, after winning the regional championship in Santiago Sul.
Balance in the first part
In a very well-disputed match, which put the two representatives of Santiago Sul in the competition face to face, the first half was guided by balance, ending with a ten-goal tie (10-10).
The two teams provided a very balanced final and spent most of the game separated by a goal.
The match was decided with 13 seconds to go, through a seven-meter shot converted by Vox, which was much contested by Girassol’s players.
Palmeira takes the last place on the podium
Prior to the final, for the dispute for third place, Palmeira, from Sal, beat Juventude, from Boa Vista, by 27-19 and got the podium, relegating the Boa Vista team to the fourth position.
ARBS (Boa Vista) finished the race in fifth place, followed by Vitória Paul (Santo Antão), in sixth, Picos (Santiago Norte), in seventh place, and JBS (São Nicolau), in eighth and last place in the table classification.
The Cape Verde handball championship had the participation of eight teams and the top two teams in both groups advanced to the semi-finals.
