Africa-Press – Cape verde. Portugal’s consulate in Cabo Verde issued 4,023 student visas in 2022, a number that has increased year on year, revealed the Cape Verdean ambassador to the European country, Eurico Correia Monteiro.
“Last year till December 2022, 4,023 student visas were granted. This number is higher in the 2022/2023 academic year, when we know that in January and February of this year student visas were also granted,” the ambassador revealed in statements to Inforpress in Lisbon.
According to Eurico Monteiro, if compared to 2015 in which 528 student visas were granted, one can “easily” notice the increase that has been registered every year, having advanced even in relation to residence and temporary stay visas issued by the consulate of Portugal in Cabo Verde, from 2025 to 2022 reached 28 thousand.
“Cape Verdean students have a high success rate and many end up staying, mainly because Cabo Verde has no way of absorbing them into the job market. They stay here, get a job and contribute to the development of the country from here, ”he said.
