
Africa-Press – Cape verde. The fire that occurred on May 29 in the northern part of São Filipe consumed an area of 7.7 hectares in Campanas de Baixo and Campanas de Cima, according to the report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment
The technical team made up of three technicians from the Agriculture sector and two from the Silviculture sector, including the forestry police officer, from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, who surveyed the damage caused by the fire, highlighted that a vast forest and agricultural area of the locality de Campanas de Baixo was consumed by the flames.
The fire broke out when a young farmer was clearing his land, using agricultural fires, and, due to unfavorable weather conditions, the fire got out of control, quickly spreading through both communities.
The data contained in the report indicate that a total of six farmers were affected, detailing that in the livestock sector there was a loss of 490 bundles of straw (spontaneous and continuous grazing) and a goat that, despite not having died, was left with one side of the burnt body.
