Africa-Press – Cape verde. With work starting in 2020 and expected to be ready in nine months, the covered sports pavilion will be inaugurated on July 15, in Ribeira Grande, Santo Antão, almost three years after the scheduled date. City Hall wants the infrastructure to host major national competitions.
After several dates for the completion of the much “dreamed” sports pavilion David Fortes, “finally” the mayor of Ribeira Grande advanced the date which, according to him, is “definitive” for the inauguration.
Speaking to the press, the mayor of Ribeira Grande, Orlando Delgado, stressed that, with the inauguration, Ribeira Grande will be on an “equal footing” with municipalities that have the same infrastructure.
The mayor revealed that they also intend to apply for other types of national championship, such as, for example, basketball, handball, so that they can also be held in Ribeira Grande.
Capacity for 900 people
The requalification and roofing works of the multipurpose David Fortes officially started in January 2020 and had a duration of nine months.
However, with the pandemic, changes to some project details and financial engineering conditioned meeting the deadline. The total cost of the work was initially budgeted at 50 million escudos.
The pavilion has a capacity for 900 people, will receive all types of hall, but some of them, due to the size of the field, cannot receive the international certificate, only the national certificate.
