Africa-Press – Cape verde. Brava City Council delivered a bicycle to the only active cyclist on the island, Alex Veiga. This act, according to the municipality, is a way to encourage more people to practice cycling on Brava. The athlete was very pleased.
Upon handing over, Mário Soares, responsible for Sports at Brava City Council, explained that this is an initiative that goes in line with the authority’s attributions, to support and encourage initiatives and groups, in this particular case the only young participates in cycling events on Brava.
According to this official, the city council has followed the young man’s training daily and admired him, because, even though he is the only cyclist training, he does not give up, and has participated in races on the island of Fogo, on the island of Santiago and on the island of Brava.
This action, according to the councilor, is also a way of encouraging other young people, justifying that if there is an intention to create a cycling association in Brava, it is necessary to have athletes, cyclists participating and preparing for competitions.
Alex Veiga satisfied with new bike
Alex da Veiga, a young man from the town of Braga, the only cyclist on the island who still keeps this sport “alive”, showed that he really needed it, as his bike that participated in the São João Baptista races ended up breaking down.
That is why it is a gesture that he received with “appreciation and great satisfaction”. And to “honor” this gesture, this young cyclist stressed that he will do his best and make an effort in each race to reach his goal.
