Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of São Miguel today considered “false, unfounded and irresponsible” the accusations made by the Regional Political Commission (CPR) of PAICV – Santiago Norte of “improperly” appropriating land from poor families for disposal.
Herménio Fernandes was thus reacting to the statements made by the president of the Regional Political Commission (CPR) of the Cape Verde African Independence Party (PAICV, opposition) – Santiago Norte, Carla Carvalho, who accused the municipality she leads and the Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia , of “ misappropriation ” and “illegal sale of land ” by families, especially poor ones.
“ The land that was sold by the municipality of São Miguel at public auction is land from the Municipality of São Miguel transferred in accordance with the law by the State of Cape Verde. The municipality of São Paulo has never alienated a single square meter of land belonging to individuals or third parties ”, the mayor began by explaining.
Regarding negotiations with some owners or occupants of Cape Verde State land in the industrial zone of Bacio, he clarified that “ the State cannot be usucinated ”, but that, however, in an “ act of seriousness and good faith ” more than four dozens were compensated, totaling around 14 thousand contos.
“ The statements made by Mrs. Carla Carvalho, PAICV deputy in Santiago Norte (…) are completely false, unfounded and irresponsible ”, said the mayor of São Paulo, who was flanked by his councilors.
“ The municipality of São Miguel has promoted the regularization of informal settlements through PRAC-SM – Settlement Regularization Program of the Municipal Chamber of São Miguel, approved by the Municipal Chamber and Assembly, thus allowing the registration of land for more than two hundred families of the municipality ”, he reinforced.
The process of transferring land from Achada Bolanha from the State to the Municipality of São Miguel, as he recalled, made it possible to regularize 270 buildings, that is, 270 families with illegal houses and squatters had the opportunity to have a legal title to the land (land registry). at a low cost and without any bureaucracy.
Regarding the youth housing program, which according to Carla Carvalho “ is nothing more than speeches ” and is “ only for English to see ”, the mayor countered, informing that around 120 low-income young people and single mothers have already benefited from land for the construction of the first housing in Bacio and Achada Bolanha.
In other words, he added that in addition to the land being sold at a price that represents one fifth of the market value and with the ease of making payment in installments, the chamber also offered the architectural project, stability calculation and licensing free of charge. for all beneficiaries of this program.
Finally, Herménio Fernandes assured that there is no complaint in Court against the municipality he heads resulting from the alienation of any land belonging to private individuals, but that there is indeed a complaint in Court against deputy Carla Carvalho. The Week with Inforpress
