Africa-Press – Cape verde. Around 200 workers from the Hotel Llana held two protests today in front of the same establishment in Santa Maria do Sal to improve working conditions. At issue are mainly delayed salary payments and social security that is not up to date, the deduction of which is made monthly from your income and not sent to the National Social Security Institute (INPS). This case is beginning, according to some workers, to have a negative impact on the hotel and Cape Verde as a tourist destination.
As a result of these demonstrations that took place in the morning and continued until tonight, the kitchen, establishment maintenance and room cleaning services did not work.
Therefore, according to those involved in these demonstrations, reactions from tourists are beginning to emerge, demanding repairs for the damage caused by this situation. A fact that, according to the same sources, is starting to have a negative impact on the hotel and Cape Verde as a tourist destination.
For worker Ricardino Rodrigues cited by RTC, this demonstration is just “a cry of despair” on the part of the workers. « We hope that the company will at least honor its commitments to keep the INPS up to date and pay the salary in a timely manner ».
The collective’s spokesperson warns that things tend to get complicated on a daily basis. « We can’t take a shower at work, because the administration suspects that we could steal products from the hotel» , criticized Rodrigues, for whom there are also complaints about unpaid money from the time of the covid19 pandemic.
Colleague João Duarte talks about the humiliation and hence, according to him, the cry of revolt and demand for help from some of the workers. “The demands are to continue. If the company does not resolve these problems, we will call a general strike, bringing together the collective of the group’s three hotels, as established by law “, he warns.
According to the RTC, contacted to exercise contradictory action, the Director of Hotel Llana refused to comment on the matter. There was only one statement distributed to workers, warning, among other aspects, of what it classifies as serious conduct that could lead to the dismissal of workers.
In light of all this, the Llana collective demands immediate intervention from the Government of the Republic, with a view to monitoring and enforcing labor law in the company.
