The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, convened the Council of the Republic for Monday, 18th, with on the agenda the analysis of geostrategic wars and armed conflicts in Africa and the world and their impact on Cape Verde.According to the Presidency of the Republic, the meeting, which will take place at the Presidency Palace, in Praia, exceptionally, due to logistical issues, will serve to address issues related to the celebration of national dates and important events of the Republic.
This meeting takes place at a time of some “crisp” between the President of the Republic and the Government.
Remember that, last week, the President of the Republic complained about the lack of coordination between the two bodies, drew attention to the struggle for protagonism in the country and has already accused the Government of “institutional disloyalty” in matters of foreign policy.
A statement that comes after the meeting on the island of Sal between the President of Ukraine, Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, a situation that caused “deep strangeness” to José Maria Neves who He promised in his “own space” to draw the Government’s attention and take any measures that prove relevant.
“A counterpart of the President of the Republic arrives in Cape Verde and, therefore, on these issues there must be coordination between the sovereign bodies and the President cannot be placed under a fait accompli on these matters”, said José Maria Neves.
The Government, in turn, responded, through a press release, ensuring that in relation to the meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of Ukraine, all relevant information was duly communicated to the head of State.
The Government guarantees that it informed the President of the Republic about the meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of Ukraine and declared that there was no “lack of articulation or institutional loyalty” in the process.
The Council of the Republic is the consultative body of the nation’s highest magistrate and includes the president of the National Assembly, the prime minister, the president of the Constitutional Court, the Ombudsman, the president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, the former presidents of the Republic, in addition to the five citizens designated by the President of the Republic.
