Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Municipal Assembly of Santa Cruz today approved the municipality’s activity plan and budget for 2024 with favorable votes from PAICV and abstention from MpD, a budget that is around 1 billion escudos.
The two council management instruments were assessed in the last session of this year’s Municipal Assembly, on the 21st and 22nd, and the plan was approved with votes in favor of PAICV (the party that manages the council) abstaining from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, opposition).
The budget received favorable votes from PAICV and against from MpD.
The president of the Santa Cruz City Council, Carlos Silva, considered the budget “quite ambitious”, taking into account the value of 1,146,178,486 escudos, an increase of 30 percent (%) compared to the previous year’s budget. , and which “is in accordance with the ambition, need and ability to raise and invest” of the city council team.
According to the mayor, for the year 2024 the team intends to bring “a greater dynamic, in terms of municipal investment”, thus justifying the value of the budget and the activities presented, highlighting that the expectation is that the year will be one of “a lot of work ” and a much better municipality, despite the situation experienced worldwide.
As for areas of focus, he indicated investments in economic activities and infrastructure, namely the creation of access to the Coroa area, an area that according to the mayor has “enormous potential” and which already has investments in this area.
Likewise, he pointed out that he will work on the Vitória Santiago project, but also continue with investments in the social areas, sport, continue investments in education, health, road infrastructures, urban and environmental requalifications and social housing.
In her declaration of vote, PAICV elected Tereza Silva justified that her bench is convinced that it is on the right path with a plan that “will continue the work of trust and transparency” so that the municipality can develop in different sectors , which is why they believe in the team and fully support its execution.
According to the bench leader, the plan “was drawn up in accordance with the needs and priorities identified by the municipality, it promotes economic, social and cultural development, but also with a focus on improving the living conditions of its residents” and the budget will help to chamber “works well” in administrative terms and allows financing the programs and projects included in the activity plan.
MpD elected Ivanilda Vaz, for her part, justified her bench’s abstention and vote against with the fact that she considers the activity plan for 2024 a “copy paste” of previous years and mandates and that the budget does not guarantee execution of works, despite the increase of around 30%, accusing that the budget “was designed in preparation for the upcoming elections”.
