Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, acknowledged on Friday that there are still challenges to be overcome in terms of youth entrepreneurship, but highlighted that the results are visible from Santo Antão to Brava.

The head of Government made this observation, this afternoon, during his speech at the opening of an open conversation with young entrepreneurs about the challenges and perspectives in the field of business promotion and development, which took place at the Cabo Hotel and Tourism School Green (EHTCV).

“The results exist from Santo Antão to Brava, young people who today see entrepreneurship as an opportunity to make investments, set up their companies, grow, create jobs for themselves and others and all of this creates a very strong dynamic”, he pointed out.

the governor, this whole dynamic began to be built since 2017, with the aim of having dedicated institutions, with the capacity to do something transformative that allows preparing young people for entrepreneurship, creating financing instruments, guarantees, advice, technical assistance and dialogue with the banking financial system.

“We still have fine-tuning to do, particularly on the issue that has to do with effective response time in relation to credit, the need to open new doors of opportunities, and we still have sectors that have a great capacity to welcome investment from youth and that need to be structured”, he highlighted.

In this sense, he added that the Government has been working in the area of ​​technology and digital with the technology park in Praia and the data center in São Vicente, which are instruments that will further enhance this possibility.

For the Prime Minister, the agriculture sector is another branch that can open up an interesting path for investment and the blue economy and fisheries have very large opportunities to be developed.

On the other hand, he recognized that another challenge is to make the country gain a larger scale to increase its capacity to provide services, produce and create jobs.

We need a short period of time so that the issue of employment and unemployment no longer appears as the first concern of Cape Verdeans and young people and we must be aware that employment in public administration will always be limited”, he pointed out.

On the occasion, the head of Government said that the executive will promote an investment summit for young people in the 1st quarter of 2024.

The meeting aims to analyze the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurship in different sectors of business activity, with the purpose of ensuring strategic alignment between the solutions available on the market and the real needs of young national businesspeople and entrepreneurs.

The “Open Conversation” also aims to reinforce information on the Government’s strategies and policies for promoting young national entrepreneurship, taking into account the specificities, opportunities and challenges of Cape Verdean youth.
