Africa-Press – Cape verde. Composers Jorge Tavares and José Lopes received, on the 23rd, in the city of Praia, the Luís Rendall musical prize, as winners of the competition that saw the participation of six competitors in this competition organized by Soca.

According to the president of the Cape Verdean Society of Authors (Soca), Daniel Spínola, this competition aimed to encourage the production of new works by Cape Verdean authors in the fields of music to encourage artistic creation, appreciation and preservation of Cape Verdean cultural identification .

In this competition, according to this Soca official, six musicians competed and the selection was made on the basis of immediacy, originality, new music that had not been recorded before and traditional Cape Verdean songs.

According to Daniel Spínola, from now on these winners will master their songs to be released on a CD, and for the other four competitors, he said that he will rescue two songs from each of them for the edition of two more CDs.

The value of all prizes for both the Luís Rendall musical prize and the author’s rights prize in the field of writing is worth one thousand contos, eighty contos of which are allocated to the two winners.

“The remaining four contestants will receive 20 contos each, for a total of 120 contos for having made available two songs to make another CD” and the remaining 800 contos are to work on these records, highlighted Daniel Spínola.

Regarding the author’s right award in the field of writing, he said that the awards were distributed to four authors, Osvaldo Osório, Natalina Graça, Hermenegildo Carvalho and Roosevelt.

In addition to these four, he stated that there will be 12 more authors included in the registration of works in 2020 and 2021, who will receive this award.

Jorge Tavares, who received this award today, considered that all of this is a great effort for the work he has done over the years.

The feeling, as the musician expressed, is “very happy” and he hopes to be recognized even more for his work.

For the other winner, José Lopes, this prize means help and he thanked Soca for holding this competition for the first time in the country.

He added that this competition opened another door for the future for new competitions to be held, stating that this is a way of valuing musicians and above all in valuing Cape Verdean culture.
