Africa-Press – Cape verde. Students at the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV), in Praia, continue to complain about the delay in buses and ask for better management of line 15 which runs the route Platô – Palmarejo Grande university campus.
The students, who start classes at 7:30 am, consider that the situation has been complicated and difficult and demand a solution with the aim of offering more dignity in accessing public transport.
According to information collected on the website of the public passenger transport company, Sol Atlântico, the journey time on line 15 – Platô – in front of Caixa Económica to the University Campus is approximately 15 minutes.
In conversation with Inforpress, Fidélia Baptista, from the first year of the Communication course, said that this information is nothing more than a mirage and that, despite waking up early, it has been difficult to get to the university at 7:30 am, because the buses start late early.
“It has been very complicated because the bus is very late. We have to wake up very early, after spending long hours studying at night, and when we arrive at the stop there is an absurd delay because we start to get late early on”, said the student who lives in Ponta d’Água and has to catch two buses to get to school, leaving home at 6:45 am to return around 3:00 pm.
The ordeal, adds the same source, is greater when returning after 1 pm, when, according to him, the wait usually exceeds an hour.
“When the bus is late, there is an accumulation of students who leave at 12:30, 13:00 and 13:30” and when the bus arrives everyone wants to go, because no one wants to stay, and overcrowding occurs. We are left as if we were sardines in a can and the bus is still moving at a slower pace”, he said.
Students say that, sometimes, two buses arrive together, but they are still insufficient to transport so many students who are already waiting, staff and other people who live close to the university.
Vânia Fonseca, from the second year, considered that it has been frustrating to deal with this situation, which has proven to be equally dangerous.
“At the time of departure, the situation is bleak. Crowds of hungry students, sitting on the floor, discouraged, waiting for the bus and, when they arrive, there is a lot of rushing and pushing because no one wants to wait for the next bus, which doesn’t have a specific time to arrive”, he lamented.
Kivia Rodrigues, also a second-year student, states that in addition to the delays, she also has to deal with the rudeness of the employees when they are approached about the delays.
“This happens because there is no competition and they know that we cannot pay for a taxi every day to get to school, or even pay the ‘hiaces’ because we carry passes and because we are students, of course we don’t have money in our wallets” , he said, highlighting that the situation has been complicated.
Wilson Pires states that the line is very profitable, because there are many students and he believes that the difficulty lies in the organization. Therefore, he suggests that, for example, when there is a large influx of students, namely early in the morning and after 12:30, when students begin to finish classes, the company makes more buses available on line 15.
“It is time to take action and resolve this situation and guarantee adequate public transport for university students”, he highlighted.
Line 15 was created precisely to respond to the demand of students at Uni-CV, an institution that has more than three thousand students. According to the program, buses start operating at 6:30 am and close at 8:30 pm.
