Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, said today that the Government is working on creating a platform to register Cape Verdeans in the diaspora, and also reduce the costs of the voter registration process. The project is being developed with the support of international companies with experience in the field.
Speaking to the press, following her visit to the Registry, Notary and Identification departments, in Chã de Areia, city of Praia, the government official explained that the project is being developed together with the Operational Center for the Society of Information (NOSi) and with the support of international companies with experience in this matter.
“We are currently working on a platform for census in the diaspora, as you know, we have a vast diaspora, where people always have difficulties in moving, going to consular posts and there is also a problem with the costs that the State spends a lot of money from the census process in the country and in the diaspora”, he said.
Joana Rosa assured that at this moment all support is also being worked on from a technological point of view so that the census can be automatic, and free citizens from having to go looking for kits, or else the kits go looking for people for census.
He explained that with the proposal to change the electoral code, which is already in parliament, conditions will be created at the level of civil registration, a change that will allow the database to be linked to the electoral process, and as soon as people reach the age of 18 are automatically included in the virtual notebook.
The idea, according to the minister, is to have the entire automatic registration process underway in the next elections in 2026.
“The preparation is underway, the database as well and all the reform that has to be introduced in terms of the electoral management and information system, so that we can have everything computerized and have the electronic voting pilot project in 2026”, he concluded .
