Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of the Sea, Jorge Santos, announced today, in the city of Praia, that the ship Praia d’Aguada is being restructured to serve the Praia – Maio line and other routes in the country.

Jorge Santos assumes that the “fastest alternative” to resolve the supply problem on the island of Maio is related to the restructuring of the ship Praia d’Aguada, to reinforce the island of Maio.

“We have taken a Government decision to restructure the Praia d’Aguada, and it is a ship that will possibly meet this need, especially in its connection with Maio and other important routes in the country”, he told the press during a series of visits to the port of Praia.

The minister highlighted that the government is currently in the process of acquiring ships to “quickly improve” port services and respond to situations such as that on Maio Island.

“The first boat is already in the tender phase to be manufactured, and we also want to buy a ship that, even though it is not new, is adapted to the conditions”, he highlighted.

The island of Maio has been facing shortages of basic necessities since the silting up of the metal ramp at Porto Inglês and the ship Kriola, which runs between Praia and Maio, has been facing difficulties in docking at the port, creating constraints for the population.
