Water Supply in Praia is being Restored after a Breakdown in the EDEC Transformer

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The water shortage in Praia is in the process of being normalized, according to the president of Águas de Santiago, Nilton Duarte, after a breakdown in the production system of EDEC, the company responsible for producing the resource.

Speaking to Expresso das Ilhas, the president of Ads confirmed that the capital has been facing problems with water distribution since December 29th due to a breakdown in an EDEC transformer, but that the situation is already improving and normalization is underway.

“Since Saturday, production capacity has improved considerably, albeit partially, and we are adjusting distribution to serve the neighborhoods in an equitable manner,” stated Nilton Duarte.

To minimize the impacts, Águas de Santiago guarantees that it has adopted a contingency plan, redistributing water in a balanced manner between the neighborhoods. The president of AdS stressed that the size of the city and the complexity of the water sectors may delay the perception of normalization by residents, but he assured that the company is committed to resolving the problem quickly.

“We have a contingency plan that equitably reduces water distribution. There is no discrimination between neighborhoods; our priority is to mitigate the effects of this lack of water,” he said. He also added that any specific problems in buildings or residences due to insufficient pressure are being resolved by the company’s technical team. Nilton Duarte highlighted EDEC’s investments in the water efficiency program as fundamental to addressing the situation with less impact. “These investments have made it easier to manage the contingency situation, something that would have been much more complicated without these measures,” he emphasized. Finally, Nilton Duarte asked the public for their understanding of the inconvenience and reinforced Águas de Santiago’s commitment to resolving the problem as quickly as possible. “We are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible.”
