Sal Island: Foreigners doing residential tourism interested in learning the Cabo Verdean language

Africa-Press – Cape verde. A group of ten foreigners doing residential tourism, in the Sal Island, takes classes in the Cabo Verdean language, promoted by the Sal Museum in Santa Maria, where they are taught every Wednesday.

The classes open also to nationals who want to know the rules of writing and other variants, are taught by the head of the Sal Museum, Erica Lopes, under the coordination of the linguist and technician from the Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC), Adelaide Monteiro.

According to a note to which Inforpress had access, it is a pilot project, the only institutional initiative for the teaching of Creole on the Sal Island, which at first took place in the context of the celebrations of the mother tongue month, but which now is extended, because of “strong demand”.

The same source indicates that these actions fall within the scope of the implementation of the language policies defined in the context of the consequent safeguarding of the language classification through the Resolution of 9 August 2019.
