Africa-Press – Cape verde. Prices for tourism services in Cape Verde increased by 3.7 percent (%) in the first quarter of 2025, year-on-year, representing an acceleration of 1.1 percentage points compared to the previous quarter, according to data released by the INE.
According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), this evolution mainly reflects the increases recorded in the Hotels, Cafés and Restaurants categories, which recorded a year-on-year variation of 3.8%.
The islands of Sal, São Vicente, Santo Antão and Santiago led the increases in accommodation and restaurant prices, with variations of 9.1%, 7.7%, 2.7% and 1.1%, respectively. On the island of Boa Vista, there were no changes in prices.
The prices of car rental services also increased by 0.4%, while entertainment and cultural services remained unchanged.
Compared to the same period in 2024, prices in restaurants increased by 0.7% and in cafes, bars and similar establishments there was an increase of 7.4%.
In the accommodation segment, the increases in tourist villages (14.8%) and hotels (4.0%) stand out. Guesthouses and guest houses recorded increases of 1.6% and 1.0%, respectively, while apartment hotels saw a slight increase of 0.1%. Guest houses kept their prices unchanged.
The quarterly variation in the Tourist Price Index (IPT) was negative, standing at -2.0%, reflecting the typical seasonality of the sector.
This value represents a drop of 5.2 percentage points (p.p.) compared to the previous quarter, when there had been an increase of 3.2%. In the same period last year, the quarterly variation was -3.1%.
In this comparison, positive variations in the prices of accommodation services in guest houses (0.8%), tourist villages and guest houses (0.2%) stand out, while hotels and apartment hotels recorded falls or stagnation.
Hotels, in particular, saw a price reduction of 3.2%, while cafes, bars and similar establishments saw a slight increase of 0.1%.
At island level, the islands of Boa Vista and Sal showed falls in tourist prices, with negative quarterly variations of -3.2% and -1.1%, respectively.
On the other hand, São Vicente, Santo Antão and Santiago recorded increases, positively influencing the movement of the national IPT with variations of 2.2%, 1.4% and 0.1%.
The Tourist Price Index (IPT) has been implemented in phases since 2016 and currently covers around 90% of total tourist expenditure, including accommodation, catering and entertainment and cultural services.
