Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Mosteiros City Council signed, on Saturday, a memorandum of understanding with the companies La Maporita and Finca la Holandesa to promote the promotion and commercialization of Fogo coffee in international markets, especially Europe.
The agreement, signed by the mayor of Mosteiros, Fábio Vieira, and company representatives, Alexa Schulz (La Maporita) and Carolina Muñoz (Finca la Holandesa), aims to strengthen the coffee production chain in Mosteiros, in addition to promoting local culture.
The memorandum has four objectives, including technical assistance, through strategic support to improve coffee quality and production, as well as international promotion that involves campaigns to promote Mosteiros coffee at European fairs and events.
Marketing through facilitating sales channels and participation in exhibitions and international representation in which the two companies act as ambassadors for coffee at global events to increase its visibility are two other objectives.
This agreement marks an “important step” towards the recognition of Mosteiros coffee as a product of excellence, aligning efforts to value not only the product, but also the rich culture of the island of Fogo.
The agreement was signed within the scope of the 11th edition of the Café do Fogo Festival, which has been taking place since the 25th at Praça Azambuja, in the city of Igreja, with several activities and which ends today, April 27th.
On the sidelines of the festival and within the scope of cooperation between Mosteiros and Alzira, Spain, the Mosteiros Health Centre was provided with a set of materials and equipment in the ENT area that will allow surgeries to be carried out in November this year and performed by Spanish and Cape Verdean doctors.
The mayor of Mosteiros said, at the time of delivery of the materials and equipment, that the city hall’s objective is to democratize access to health for all residents of the municipality.
Therefore, he added, the city government has been “working hard”, within the scope of partnerships with other municipalities, on the health dimension and, mainly, to allow families to have access to health.
ENT doctor Tomás Pérez, who accompanied the mission and delivered the materials, said it was a pleasure to be on Fogo Island, and was surprised by the population’s capacity for development and improvement.
These equipments, according to him, can be used to improve the health of the population of Fogo, especially with regard to throat, nose and ear diseases.
In addition to the Mosteiros Health Center, the São Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital also received materials for surgery in the ENT area.
The 11th edition of the Fogo Coffee Festival, which also featured the 7th Fogo Coffee Race, ends today with a performance by singer Solange Cesarovna, who is the main attraction of this edition. She will perform on Sunday night, at Azambuja square, right after the performance by local band Pró Kultura.
