Africa-Press – Cape verde. The proposal to create the Municipal Police of São Filipe was approved today with favorable votes from the elected members of the PAICV and abstention from the elected members of the MpD in the third ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly.
The proposal, which aims to complement the actions of public security forces in strengthening inspections, protecting public property and ensuring the safety of citizens, received 12 votes in favor from PAICV, the political force that governs the municipality of São Filipe, and five abstentions from MpD, the opposition.
The creation of the São Filipe Municipal Police Station (PMSF), according to the approved proposal, is in line with the Federal Constitution and other current laws.
Monitoring compliance with municipal regulations and ordinances, ensuring the safety of vehicles and pedestrians on public roads, protecting public health and the environment, ensuring compliance with urban management standards and cooperating with the National Police (PN) in public order actions are among the reasons that led the city of São Filipe to move forward with the creation of the Municipal Police.
With its establishment, the city hall also intends to optimize the performance of local authorities and promote a safer, more organized and welcoming city for residents and visitors.
The measure represents an advance in administrative autonomy and demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to the modernization and efficiency of public services and, according to the proposal, with its operation it is expected to increase the presence of agents in critical areas, as well as reduce urban and environmental infractions and respond more quickly to the population’s demands.
The proposed career framework for agents foresees a total of 33 employees, including employees, managers and career police personnel.
The proposed salary scale varies between 45 thousand escudos/month (2nd class agent) and 90 thousand escudos/month (main officer) and the creation of the PMSF represents a monthly expense of 594 thousand escudos and an annual expense of 7,128 thousand escudos.
