Africa-Press – Cape verde. The organizers of the Kavala Fresk Feastival assured Inforpress today that everything is ready for the start of the 13th edition of the event, which will involve 25 restaurants, 14 barbecue areas and various activities.
The information was given by one of the organizers, Kisó Oliveira, who said that they are now in the final details and “finalizing last-minute variables”, such as completing the list of restaurants and other gastronomic spaces, which should “invade” Avenida Marginal, in Mindelo, on Saturday, 12th.
In principle, according to the same source, 25 restaurants are already scheduled to participate in “Pexe na Prote” and 14 establishments in the grill area, called `Pexe na Braza ́.
This latest offering, as Kisó Oliveira assured, will be much larger than in previous years, covering the area from the Replica of the Belem Tower (Sea Museum) to the surroundings of the Mansa Marina Hotel (the well-known Pont d’Água).
Meanwhile, he explained, this year there will be no activities at the Belém Tower Replica because it is under construction.
However, Kisó Oliveira asserted that there will certainly be no shortage of reasons for the people of Mindelo to go to the city center for this festival, whose queen is the mackerel, and in this 13th edition, animated by around two dozen activities, with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Cape Verde’s Independence as a backdrop.
The program begins on Friday, the 11th, with the `Kavala cooking show ́ that invites chefs Viriato Pã (Guinea), Lamine Medina (Cape Verde) and Aurore Luca (France) for classes on tastes, seasonings, textures, flavors and dish tasting.
On Saturday the 12th, the day of the event itself, the public is welcomed by the `Mob kavala ́, from Rua d’Praia to Avenida Marginal, which, through the wind instruments of the Municipal Band and the song “Oli Kavala fresk”, invites everyone to be part of the Kavala Fresk Feastival.
The event is also filled with an exhibition, under the `Kavala & Art ́ heading, entitled “Ocean in Engraving” which will present works in woodcut and pyrography by students from the Industrial and Commercial School of Mindelo (the well-known Technical School of Mindelo) and by professor Jair Pinto.
It also consists of a more educational part with classes taught by the Escola do Mar (EMar) on safety at sea, a conversation circle on fishing and the Blue Economy promoted by the Instituto do Mar (IMar) under the theme “A 50-year legacy, a future under construction”, and also an educational tour for children aged 7 and over, under the title “Sailing with awareness”, in partnership with the Coast Guard.
On the sports front, the mackerel festival is held with 3X3 basketball competitions, in the `Kavala na cest ́, swimming competition and boat race.
The cultural part will feature four Carnival blocks selling food and drinks, at `Karnavala ́, a space also animated by the artist Yakass and band and DJ Djé.
Not to mention the `Kavala na mei d ́mar ́, a boat trip in Mindelo Bay, with the voice of Elly Paris, accompanied by Bau.
At Praça Dom Luís, he welcomes `Kavala & Muska ́, starting with the collection of “Vozes da Independência ́” composed by Toy Pinto, Zizi Vaz and Dani Mariano, then Arymar and Ceuzany take to the stage and finally DJ Fat Boy, at the `Kavala Party ́.
