Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Parents and Friends of Children and Young People with Special Needs Association (Colmeia) pointed out on Monday the need to create social protection conditions to increase the capacity of responses to people with disabilities.

This position was expressed by the President of the Colmeia, Isabel Moniz, on the sidelines of the activities carried out at the institution’s head office in Praia, connected with the World Down Syndrome Day, which takes place annually on March 21.

According to this responsible, this day is marked with a set of activities with children and young people, however the main purpose for these activities is to to raise awareness of families and especially public authorities to the work on public policies.

“We believe that we must work to have an early intervention service in Cabo Verde, to work on the issue of abilitation and rehabilitation services with social protection,” said the same source, who benefit from invalidity allowance from social protection and protected employment.
