Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Maio City Hall announced this Tuesday, the 12th, the suspension of the Bixi Rotxa Festival, which was scheduled for September, in commemoration of the city’s day.
According to a statement from the city hall, the decision to suspend the festival is in solidarity with the victims of the storm that occurred in São Vicente in the early hours of August 11th.
“In this sense, the Maio City Hall, within the scope of its statutory powers, and in a gesture of institutional solidarity with the island of São Vicente, has decided to suspend the festival, which was scheduled for September 6th, 2025,” it emphasized.
According to the mayor, the storm that hit São Vicente island has plunged our country into a state of mourning. “The hearts of the entire nation are saddened, broken by the loss of human lives, substantial material assets, homes, roads, social and urban facilities, with financial costs that are still incalculable.”
In the same statement, he emphasized that this is a dramatic situation that should mobilize the nation and public and private institutions to seek quick and effective solutions to accommodate these families and work to meet their needs.
“Cape Verde will remain in a state of despair for a long time, because as long as even one family, one person, one child is not properly welcomed, treated, and reintegrated, the country as a whole will be resentful and compromised in its performance and results,” he noted.
