Former Mayor Named Director General of Maritime Transport

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government has appointed the former Mayor of Tarrafal de São Nicolau, José Freitas de Brito, to serve as Director-General of Maritime Transport.

This information is contained in the extract of management contract no. 50/2025, signed between the Minister of Tourism and Transport and the Director-General of Maritime Transport, published today in the Official Gazette.

According to the same document, the management contract took effect on April 1, 2025.

José Freitas de Brito, 51, is a native of the municipality of Tarrafal de São Nicolau and holds a law degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He served as Mayor of Tarrafal from 2012 to 2024 and was Vice-President of the National Association of Municipalities of Cape Verde (ANMCV) and President of the Association of Mayors of the Movement for Democracy (MpD).
