New Cargo Flight Links Sal Island to Senegal Produce

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Sal Island welcomed the inaugural flight of Dakar Air Cargo this Friday, the 22nd, an air transport initiative connecting Cape Verde to Senegal and transporting fresh produce.

The operation is led by Josh Angulo, a former world windsurfing champion and businessman who serves as Dakar Air Cargo’s representative in Cape Verde, opening an “important trade corridor” between the two nations.

In an interview with Inforpress, Angulo highlighted the symbolic importance of the flight, even with a cargo load below the ATR aircraft’s maximum capacity of 8 tons.

“This is another important step in the connection between Cape Verde and ECOWAS, and we are taking advantage of the opportunity to bring in fresh produce, especially fish and seafood,” he said.

The frequency of the flights will depend on customer demand. The intention is that, with the participation of more companies and entrepreneurs, the operation can expand to other Cape Verdean islands.

The new air connection with Dakar is seen as a major benefit for Sal Island, which is experiencing growing economic dynamism.

According to Josh Angulo, the initiative creates a new bridge for trade, benefiting both Cape Verdeans and foreigners.

The project aims to contribute to the realization of the dream of connecting Cape Verde to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) market by air.

Angulo expressed his gratitude to those involved and his hope that this new route will help “enrich the soil of Cape Verde” with a variety of fresh produce.

Dakar Air Cargo’s operation represents a “promise to strengthen trade and regional development” that reinforces Cape Verde’s position as a strategic hub in West Africa.
