Africa-Press – Cape verde. There will be changes on TACV’s Board of Directors, Minister of Tourism and Transport José Luís Sá Nogueira confirmed this Tuesday. The governor also responded to the damage to two domestic flights and the new airline.
In an interview with Jornal da Noite on Cape Verdean Television (TCV), José Luís Sá Nogueira clarified that Pedro Barros had not resigned, but that there had been an agreement to change TACV’s governance.
“This means there will be a change on the Board of Directors. Some directors will leave and others will stay,” he explained.
The head of the transport ministry also responded to the aircraft failure on two domestic flights this Sunday, August 31st.
He stated that these two damages, or “incidents,” are not normal, but noted that the President of the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC) himself had already stated that there is complete security in the regulatory and technical-operational framework, which ensures that these aircraft are operational.
With TACV operating Boeings to ensure inter-island travel following the damage, José Luís Sá Nogueira assured that the focus is not on costs, but rather on ensuring inter-island mobility for both Cape Verdeans and visitors.
However, he said that an archipelagic country like Cape Verde cannot guarantee inter-island connectivity without government subsidies.
When asked if the newly established company will need this subsidy, he responded that the government has defined a framework for public service obligations. From there, the conditions for financial compensation will be defined in the event of loss-making routes.
“It is within this context that the government will effectively provide financial compensation and, if necessary, subsidize operations whenever necessary,” the governor concluded.
