Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government of Cape Verde announced this Tuesday that two new ATR 72-600 aircraft have successfully completed demonstration flights and are ready to begin regular commercial operations for inter-island air transport in the archipelago.
This “green light” represents a crucial milestone in strengthening the country’s connectivity and territorial cohesion.
The aircraft, which reinforce the national fleet, arrived in Cape Verde in early September.
The first, registration D4-CCM, landed on September 5th, and the second, D4-CCN, arrived on September 12th.
Both aircraft were delivered after flights from Toulouse, with a stopover in Las Palmas, operated by Cape Verdean crews.
According to the same source, with the incorporation of these two modern turboprops, inter-island operations will now be guaranteed by a total of three aircraft, supplemented by an aircraft under the ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) regime provided by Royal Air Maroc.
The Government emphasizes that this investment is strategic, aiming not only to “train national human resources, but also to ensure greater resilience and operational stability, regularity, and quality in air transport services.”
“The main objective is to improve citizen mobility, promote territorial cohesion, and boost the country’s economic dynamism,” the statement reads.
“It is the Government of Cape Verde that will fulfill and continue the arduous work of stabilizing air transport, whatever the cost, consistently and efficiently, recognizing it as a matter of sovereignty,” the government stated in an official statement.
The effort to strengthen the fleet is not expected to end with the arrival of the ATR 72-600s, he added.
The Government announced that it is already working on acquiring more aircraft for the domestic market, in order to meet the growing demand from the resident population and the diaspora, and also to support the diversification of tourism and the decentralization process in the country.
With the entry into full operation of the new aircraft, the Government reiterates its “firm commitment to ensuring regular, safe, and high-quality air service, strengthening connectivity between all islands and promoting balanced development throughout the archipelago.”
