Africa-Press – Cape verde. The hospital on Brava Island began offering ophthalmology consultations this Tuesday, for the first time with dedicated equipment donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Júlio Barros, the Health Commissioner for Brava Island, spoke to the media and welcomed the progress, emphasizing that the island has taken “another step forward in healthcare,” as eye exams and consultations can now be performed locally.
The commissioner expressed gratitude for the partnership between the Ministry of Health and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, considering it “a privilege” for the municipality to have this new service.
According to Júlio Barros, patients will be the greatest beneficiaries, as they will be able to avoid the hassles and costs of traveling to neighboring islands.
“Today we have an ophthalmologist who is seeing patients who have been waiting for a long time for this appointment. This means that instead of patients being transported to other islands for appointments, from now on, doctors will come to Brava for consultations,” explained Júlio Barros.
In turn, Jorge Rodrigues Santos, the local leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Brava Island and Branch President, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the church for completing yet another project to benefit the population.
“This achievement will certainly have a huge impact on the needs of the people of Brava, and for that, I thank all the teams and members who were involved in making this project a reality,” he emphasized.
Rodrigues Santos concluded by emphasizing that the Church’s work is to be the “light of Christ in people’s lives,” and therefore will continue to carry out projects that make a difference in the community.
