Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean national football team leaves Lisbon today for Libya, where they will play the ninth and penultimate round of Group D of the African qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup this Wednesday, the 8th.
According to the schedule of Cape Verdean national football coach Pedro Brito, better known as Bubista, the “Blue Sharks,” as the team is known, will also train on Portuguese soil with the selected players before heading to Tripoli.
Bubista believes this match could be decisive for Cape Verde’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, as a victory, or a result identical to Cameroon, their closest rival, would secure their place in the World Cup with one matchday remaining.
The Libya vs. Cape Verde match will be played at the Tripoli International Stadium in Tripoli at 3:00 PM (12:00 PM CV).
Five days later, Cape Verde concludes its bid for qualification with the 10th and final matchday, scheduled for Monday the 13th, at the National Stadium in Praia, against the Eswatini national team, kicking off at 3:00 PM.
Cape Verde is one victory away from its unprecedented qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be contested between the USA, Canada, and Mexico, as it leads Group D with 19 points, followed by Cameroon (15), Libya (14), Angola (7), Mauritius (5), and Eswatini (2).
