Africa-Press – Cape verde. PAICV representatives elected for Fogo, Eva Ortet, Luís Pires, and Clara Andrade, are visiting the island to engage with local residents and authorities and hear their concerns.

Representative Luís Pires said the visit began on Friday the 10th with a joint meeting with the island’s three municipal councils—São Filipe, Santa Catarina do Fogo, and Mosteiros—focusing on the so-called “new dreams of Fogo,” development priorities, and the main constraints facing the island.

The representatives also participated in the 4th Ocean Decade Conference, held on Friday and Saturday, reinforcing their commitment to environmental issues and maritime sustainability.

Ahead of the upcoming debate on the state of justice in parliament, the representatives met with judges and prosecutors from the São Filipe District, in a consultation effort to better understand the challenges facing the island’s justice system.

The five-day visit, which ends on Tuesday, includes trips to communities in the central/southern areas of São Filipe, Santa Catarina do Fogo, and the coastal area of Mosteiros, with the aim of listening to farmers and ranchers.

The visit and contact with farmers and ranchers takes place in a particularly “worrying” context, given the forecast of one of the worst agricultural years in recent memory, which could worsen the socioeconomic situation of many families on the island, according to PAICV members of parliament.

The representatives’ trip is part of the PAICV parliamentary group’s commitment to maintaining a close relationship with voters and bringing their concerns to the national political debate.
