Farmers in Chã De Norte Seek Water Mobilization Priority

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Farmers in Chã de Norte, in the interior of the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, called this Sunday for the expedited mobilization of water in this valley to meet irrigation demand.

The farmers’ spokesperson, Dinelson Lima, told Inforpress that the 130 tons of water produced daily by the existing borehole in Chã de Norte are already insufficient to meet the needs of farmers, who are clamoring for water mobilization.

The approximately 60 farmers in Chã de Norte have been persistently advocating for greater water availability for agriculture in the area, proposing the construction of a second borehole in this area, whose population depends primarily on agriculture.

Dinelson Lima considered the construction of the borehole to increase water availability for irrigation in Chã de Norte to be urgent.

The delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in the municipality of Porto Novo, Joel Barros, assured that Chã de Norte is on the list of priorities of that ministry within the framework of the water prospecting program in the municipality of Porto Novo.
