Cape Verde Reports 80 Malaria Cases Risking Resurgence

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Health said on Wednesday that malaria cases are increasing in Cape Verde, with a total of 80 cases, and that the country is on the verge of facing a resurgence of the epidemic.

“We are being very careful, with around 80 cases, and we are reinforcing all strategies and appealing to all of us – national and municipal authorities and related institutions, especially the community – to become aware that the ‘Anopheles’ mosquito is a very serious enemy that we must combat with action,” declared Jorge Figueiredo.

According to the same source, the current cases are related to the same situation and the same areas that have been diagnosed, aggravated by the mobility of people coming from the mainland who therefore have parasitemia without symptoms and who, when bitten by mosquitoes, constitute a cycle.

When asked if the country could lose its certification, Jorge Figueiredo stated that health institutions are still working on cases from last year, most of which were imported but became autochthonous because the origin of the disease could not be identified.

To that end, he stated that “very serious work” is being done to identify autologous cases, appealing to all services to contribute to this matter so that the country can maintain its status as a malaria-free country.
