Cape Verde Promotes Web Summit 2025 to Connect Diaspora

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government of Cape Verde promoted the “SikaBaDu Summit” event this Tuesday at the Cape Verde Cultural Center (CCCV) in Lisbon, Portugal, to connect with its diaspora and to give visibility to the Cape Verdean ecosystem.

The event is part of Cape Verde’s participation in the Web Summit 2025, which began on Monday evening and runs until Thursday, the 13th, in the Portuguese capital.

“All countries participating in the Web Summit hold a separate event, and Cape Verde, as a country that wants to have relevance in the digital world, decided to create its own event. This event, which has been happening for some years now, is to connect with our diaspora and with friends of Cape Verde, to show the best that we are doing in our ecosystem,” stated the Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes.

The governor emphasized that Cape Verde is participating in the Web Summit 2025 with its “largest delegation ever,” with nearly 100 young residents from Cape Verde and the diaspora, and 25 startups, understanding that Cape Verde is “one people and one nation.”

He added that technology offers the possibility for people to work in different parts of the world.

The “SikaBaDu Summit,” according to him, will serve to demonstrate Cape Verde’s capacity to organize a high-quality event and showcase its best, particularly in the digital realm.

“We want to attract our diaspora back to Cape Verde, and we also want the young people who are there [in Cape Verde] to connect with those who are here [in the diaspora]. This is a unique and important opportunity for us to show what we are doing and connect young Cape Verdeans in the diaspora with young Cape Verdeans who are in Cape Verde,” he concluded.

Cape Verde is at the technology conference with its stand in pavilion four, where several workshops, startup presentations, a performance by batucadeiras (traditional female musicians), and the signing of a protocol between Pró-Empresa and Cabo Verde Airlines (CVA) took place today.

According to the two Cape Verdean public companies, this protocol aims to bring innovation to civil aviation through startups founded by young Cape Verdeans both within and outside the country.

In 2024, the Web Summit, which took place from November 11th to 14th, registered a record 71,528 participants from 153 countries.

According to data released by the organization, “1,857 investors from 86 countries will participate in Web Summit 2025, a 74% increase compared to the 1,066 from last year.

Web Summit is a technology event that originated in Ireland in 2010 and has been held in the Parque das Nações area of Lisbon since 2016, remaining in the Portuguese capital until 2028.”
