ERIS Finds Waste Management Issues in Sal and São Nicolau

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Independent Health Regulatory Entity (ERIS) announced this Tuesday that it identified shortcomings in the management of hospital waste, non-compliance with deadlines for submitting complaints, and the absence of informational signs in 11 private health establishments on the islands of Sal and São Nicolau, during inspections carried out between September 21 and October 1, 2025.

According to the entity, the main shortcomings include inadequate management of hospital waste, with insufficient procedures for the separation, storage, and proper disposal of materials; failure to meet the legal deadline for submitting complaints to the competent authority; and the absence of mandatory informational signs placed in visible and easily readable locations for users.

The inspection covered 11 private establishments, including medical offices and centers, stomatology clinics, clinical analysis laboratories, physiotherapy and osteopathy centers, health centers with and without inpatient facilities, and the Sal regional hospital.
