Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Court of the District of São Vicente has ordered the pre-trial detention of the six men arrested on Thursday by the Judicial Police (PJ) in the towns of Lombo Tanque, Bela Vista, and Fonte Francês, during an operation to combat drug trafficking.
According to a statement from the PJ cited by Inforpress, the operation was led by magistrates from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the participation of National Police officers, and culminated in the seizure of large quantities of drugs, money, and weapons.
Six Cape Verdean citizens were also arrested, four from the island of Santiago and two from the island of São Vicente.
According to the PJ, the detainees were presented to the competent judicial authorities for their first judicial interrogation, and the Court of the District of São Vicente ordered the most severe coercive measure, pre-trial detention.
The six men will await further legal proceedings at the Central Penitentiary of São Vicente while the investigations continue.
