Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government today dismissed “any responsibility or interference” in the actions of the judicial authorities, following a search carried out on Friday, the 12th, at City Council of Praia, which was reportedly ordered by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In a public statement, the Government emphasized that the Constitution of the Republic, since 1992, has enshrined the independence of the courts and the full autonomy of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, granting these bodies their own powers of self-governance and prohibiting any other authority from interfering in the activities of magistrates.
According to the same source, this independence is not only legal but also part of the country’s institutional culture.
For the Government, claiming that there is governmental interference in judicial decisions constitutes “a serious offense” against the judiciary, stressing that “only those who do not understand our justice system would dare such recklessness.”
