Africa-Press – Cape verde. Strengthening the financial autonomy of municipalities is “an essential pathway” to reducing inter-municipal and inter-island imbalances, which “may compromise social peace in the country,” stated today the Minister of National Defence and Territorial Cohesion.

Janine Lélis made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the General Council of the National Association of Cape Verdean Municipalities (ANMCV).

The minister pointed out that the persistence of inequalities in the distribution of infrastructure, investment, and social gains requires the involvement of all stakeholders in the “battle to reduce imbalances,” within a framework of “greater redistributive justice.”

“The persistence of internal and inter-municipal imbalances undermines the social peace we have worked to build. Therefore, we must all engage in the fight to reduce these disparities, with a view to achieving greater redistributive justice, whether in infrastructure, investments, or social benefits,” she stated.
