Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Bishop of the Diocese of Santiago, Cardinal Dom Arlindo Furtado, stated today in Praia that Christmas is “the feast of existential encounter,” inviting the faithful to live a profound relationship with God as the basis for building a better future.
In his Christmas message, delivered before the traditional Mass at the Parish Church of Our Lady of Grace, the Cardinal emphasized that the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is, for Christians, more than a moment of the present, representing “a new beginning” oriented towards the fullness of eternity.
According to Dom Arlindo Furtado, by assuming the human condition, God elevated humanity to divine dignity, showing that the presence of Christ implies communion with God and among human beings themselves. He added that, although society is focused on planning for the future, Christmas places Christians in the present, encouraging the appreciation of quality human and spiritual relationships.
Cardinal Arlindo Furtado argued that experiencing Christmas should translate into concrete gestures of sharing, solidarity, and respect, beginning within the family and extending to the community. He further emphasized that Christ is the source of Christian hope and the foundation for human and spiritual growth in communion.
Dom Arlindo Furtado concluded by stating that the path of Christians is a “pilgrimage in hope,” following Jesus Christ towards the eternal life promised by God.
