Africa-Press – Cape verde. The rehabilitation and paving works on urban roads in Mosteiros (EN1-FG-01) and the municipal road accessing Fajãzinha resumed on Tuesday, the 3rd, on the eve of the Prime Minister’s visit to Mosteiros.
“It is with great satisfaction that we announce the resumption of the paving works, which have been eagerly awaited by everyone,” wrote the Mayor of Mosteiros, Fábio Vieira, on his personal social media page.
In statements to Inforpress, the mayor said that the works resumed on Tuesday morning and thanked the Government “for the partnership and commitment” in carrying out “this important project”.
The Cape Verde Roads Authority (ECV) announced that, following an agreement between the Government and the Mosteiros municipality, it has assumed management of the contract and co-financing in the amount of 133 million escudos, and that the resumption of road paving on the Achada Malva (Mosteiros Trás) – Calhau (Fajãzinha) road resumed on Tuesday, the 4th.
At this stage, the application of the bituminous concrete leveling layer is underway, as well as drainage and urban requalification works, with a view to improving traffic conditions, road safety and the mobility of the population.
The ECV appeals for the understanding and cooperation of users, as traffic will be restricted during the period of execution of the works.
The forecast for the completion of the paving of the urban roads of Mosteiros, which is being visited today by the Prime Minister and the accompanying government delegation, is the first quarter of this year.
The paving works on just over six kilometers of urban roads in Mosteiros, from Achada Malva (Mosteiros Trás) to Fajãzinha, began in January 2024, but were suspended for administrative reasons, according to the company responsible for the project.
Since then, the Mayor of Mosteiros has been in contact with the central administration, holding several meetings with the previous and current Ministers of Infrastructure, with Infraestruturas de Cabo Verde (ICV) and Estradas de Cabo Verde (ECV), as well as with the former and current management of Elevolution, the contractor for the work.
Having overcome the obstacles, the municipality mobilized the Government to complete this project, with the Government assuming part of the financial burden of the undertaking, whose execution period is three months from the resumption.
The rehabilitation and paving of urban roads and the municipal access road to Fajãzinha are part of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development (PEDS II) vision of ensuring an integrated and sustainable transport system, serving regional cohesion and development.
For the proper execution of the budget and achievement of the sector’s programmatic objectives, it is necessary to authorize the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing to carry out the corresponding expenses for these projects, whose value is around 130 million escudos.
