Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Court of the District of Praia has ordered the preventive detention of a suspect accused of supplying firearms to individuals involved in homicide crimes in the Brasil neighborhood, in Achada Santo António, Praia City.
In a statement released, the PJ (Judicial Police) reports that on Friday afternoon, the 13th, it carried out another operation in the Achada Santo António neighborhood and arrested, outside of flagrante delicto, a 40-year-old individual who had been found in possession of various firearms and ammunition inside his residence.
The PJ advises that this arrest occurred following the mega-operation launched on December 20th of last year in Praia City, in the Brasil neighborhood, in Achada Santo António, as part of an investigation related to violent crimes (homicides), and that the result of this operation culminated in the seizure of several firearms, notably high-caliber weapons of military use, narcotics, bladed weapons, balaclavas, and other evidence.
In this regard, it was reported that the Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section (SICCP) carried out another operation in the Achada de Santo António neighborhood on the afternoon of Friday, the 13th of this month, following the seizures of December 20th and also related to investigative proceedings in the context of the murder of a 16-year-old boy, known as “Chris”, who was the fatal victim of a shooting that occurred on the night of March 26, 2025, in the Brasil area of Achada de Santo António, in Praia City.
The same source emphasized that the proceedings were carried out in compliance with search and seizure warrants issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Criminal Investigation Court of the Praia District Court.
According to the PJ (Judicial Police), the detainee is indicted for the crimes of aggravated homicide, illegal possession of a firearm, and drug trafficking. He is also identified, during the investigations by this Police force, as the main suspect in the supply and distribution of firearms used in homicides in the ASA neighborhood, “being the oldest member of the groups responsible for the rivalries that have occurred in that area and who was a fugitive.”
Having been presented to the competent judicial authorities for initial questioning, the Judicial Court of the Praia District ordered his preventive detention, and the defendant is currently awaiting further procedural steps in the Praia Central Prison.
