Africa-Press – Cape verde. The coordinator of the Behavioral Supervision Office of the Bank of Cape Verde said on Tuesday that the institution is committed to bringing financial education to all municipalities in the country, despite the challenges inherent to its archipelagic status.
José Júlio Dias, speaking on the sidelines of an activity held at the Eugénio Tavares High School in Brava, as part of Global Money Week, explained that the trip to the island was already included in the first National Financial Education Plan.
“Cape Verde is an archipelagic country, and bringing financial education to all municipalities is a huge challenge. Today we brought Global Money Week, a moment of fellowship with the children, in which we presented concepts about the financial system, savings, and money, with the aim of instilling good financial habits from an early age,” he said.
According to José Júlio Dias, in addition to financial concepts, the actions also address behavioral issues, such as procrastination, highlighting the importance of planning and the phased execution of tasks.
“Often, young people postpone activities and, when the time comes to submit them, they face difficulties. We are conveying that everything is a process that must be done step by step,” he explained.
The official also said that the initiatives will be extended to basic education, arguing that the early introduction of financial education can contribute to a more developed society in the future.
“Countries with higher human development started financial education earlier. The earlier, the better,” he stressed.
Regarding fraud prevention, the coordinator warned about what he considered to be an “industrialization of fraud,” with increasingly sophisticated schemes.
“As the financial system creates protection mechanisms, new ways of deceiving people also emerge. Nothing is easy in life, so great caution is needed when faced with proposals for services or products that promise easy gains,” he warned.
The Behavioral Supervision Office of the Bank of Cape Verde is carrying out, from March 16 to 28, several activities within the framework of the 14th edition of Global Money Week, reinforcing the decentralization policy with actions in Chã das Caldeiras (Fogo Island), on Brava Island and in the interior of Santiago Island.
