Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Movement for Democracy (MpD) is holding this Sunday, 3rd, in the country and in some diaspora countries, internal elections for the constitution of commissions and municipal political assemblies. In the country, polling stations opened around 8 am and activists have until 6 pm to choose the new municipal representatives of the party.

Nationally, the elections will not take place in Tarrafal de Santiago, in Mosteiros (Fogo), in Brava, in Boa Vista and in Ribeira Grande (Santo Antão), as advanced by the secretary general of the MpD, Filomena Delegado.

“This for several reasons and also because they did not deliver the candidacies on time, but now the party will have to do some work to see when the elections can be held in these municipalities”, justified, Filomena Delgado, in an interview with Inforpress, defending that the electoral schedule and regulation must be respected.

In terms of the diaspora, the same source added that France asked for the postponement, and in Europe the elections will take place in Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy, in the Americas in the United States of America and in Africa in Angola, São Tomé and Prince and Senegal.

candidates In terms of candidacies, he mentioned that São Miguel, Santa Catarina and Santa Cruz have two candidates, and on the island of São Vicente there will be three candidates.

“Where there is a single candidacy, the head of the list will then constitute the municipal political commission and in the case of two or more candidacies we may have the municipal political assemblies with members of the different candidacies”, explained the secretary general of the MpD, adding that the candidate from the most targeted list may also constitute a municipal political commission.

“A lot is expected of the future presidents of political commissions and municipal assemblies because communication will flow better if the national and municipal part is well organized”, said the leader of the party that maintains power.

On the other hand, he guaranteed that the materials for the voting, namely the ballot papers and the electoral rolls, had already been distributed and with the delegates ready to organize the entire electoral process.

Elections for municipal political assemblies of the MpD (in power) take place in 16 councils and political assemblies in emigrant communities in eight diaspora countries. In Cape Verde, polling stations opened around 8 am and activists have until 6 pm to choose new municipal representatives.
