Africa-Press – Cape verde. The townhouse of Ubaldinho, one of the most emblematic in the historic center of the city of São Filipe, on the island of Fogo, built almost 100 years ago, is being demolished for its reconstruction, Inforpress found.

The house, built a few years after the then village of São Filipe had risen to the category of city, was in an advanced state of degradation and falling to pieces, endangering the safety of passers-by who circulate in its vicinity.

Located in the noble area of the historic center of São Filipe, near to municipal market and a few meters from the Presidio square, one of the largest viewpoints of the city, the townhouse of Ubaldinho (Ubaldo Ferreira dos Santos) as it is known, was built, in the 30s of the twentieth century, by the merchant and owner Manuel Ferreira, originally from the village of Forno (South zone), and among other products, he sold seeds of purgueira and castor, products were exported, at the time, to Portugal.

With an architecture was used in colonial times for the construction of the houses (angular type), this building has three floors, namely the lower part, which was intended for commerce, the first floor reserved for the office and the second functioned as rooms for lodging of customers who came from afar, avoiding the return on the same day.
