Africa-Press – Cape verde. The construction and paving work of the Chã de Tanque/Palha Carga/Entre Picos de Reda/Lagoa road, in Santa Catarina, opens tomorrow, Monday, 25th, at 4:00 pm, in a ceremony presided over by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia and Silva.

The road, financed by the Government of Cape Verde and the World Bank, is 14 kilometers long, with a lane paved in bituminous concrete with a width of five meters, a stone masonry wall, retaining walls, drainage ), hydraulic passages, as well as signage.

The management of the contract was in charge of Estradas de Cabo Verde (ECV) and its execution was the responsibility of Tecnovia, Cabo Verde, with the value of the work budgeted at 370,000,000 ECV, according to information from the local authority.

With the construction and paving of the Chã de Tanque/Palha Carga/Entre Picos de Reda/Lagoa road, the aim is to contribute to the unblocking of localities, the development of the local economy, in particular, agriculture, livestock, commerce and tourism, as well as how to substantially improve traffic conditions and accessibility in the region.

Asphalt instead of cobblestone

Initially, the road surface was planned to be paved, however, the Municipality of Santa Catarina and the Government of Cape Verde “were sensitive to the demands” of the population and the asphalt was chosen, after negotiations with the World Bank.

The initial option for the cobblestone floor was intended to provide temporary employment to the populations. However, the low adhesion of the people to the work opportunity and the reduced capacity revealed in terms of parallel production, forced the Government, according to a proposal from the City Council, to opt for the asphalt floor.

opening program
