PAICV wants inspection of Santo Antão municipal councils

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The deputies of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), elected by Santo Antão, demand an inspection of the island’s municipal councils. The objective is to know “the purpose given to the resources that the Government says it has transferred” to the municipalities.

Speaking to the press, at the end of a week-long visit to the constituency, the elected officials say they do not know “what is the purpose given to the resources that the Government says it has transferred to the municipal councils” of Santo Antão for the creation of jobs, within the scope of the emergency program.

They therefore demanded an “inspection” of the island’s municipal councils, similar to what has been done in Praia.

“It is necessary to carry out an inspection, similar to the Municipality of Praia, which is already in the fourth inspection”, urged the PAICV deputy.

Water supply

Rosa Rocha said that Santo Antão faces “a burning problem” in terms of unemployment and warned of the existence of “problems in all sectors of activity” on the island, with emphasis on water supply.

“In Porto Novo, the water has lost its quality because the company does not have the financial capacity to replace equipment that has already reached its time limit. The camera cannot provide water in all areas of the city. The government has to act,” he urged.

Still on the water supply, Rosa Rocha warned of the lack of water in the North and East Plateaus.

In the East Plateau, he explained, the pumping project stopped working and in the North Plateau, the pumping and water adduction project, which, as he said, already had guaranteed funding in 2016, “continues to slip”.
