Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government announced that it will build 453 social housing, 197 in Praia and 256 in Mindelo. The launch of the tender for this purpose will take place in the short term.
The prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, made this revelation during the debate on the State of the Nation, which took place on Friday, 29, in Parliament.
In addition to the construction, he also announced the rehabilitation of 750 houses, in the country’s capital, indicating program contracts with the municipal councils, in the amount of 180 million escudos, for the rehabilitation of houses.
“Housing is a critical point”, admitted the head of the Government, who acknowledged that the country has a “serious problem” of housing and habitability.
The priority of public investments, according to Correia e Silva, has been the rehabilitation of the homes of the poorest families nationwide and the relocation of extensive areas of shantytowns in Sal and Boa Vista.
Thus, he said, 256 houses were built in Boa Vista for the relocation of people living in tents, while 550 were built in Sal.
“These are investments that cover streets, construction of water, electricity and sewage networks and community social spaces”, he stressed.
According to the same source, in the medium and long term, the Government will have to invest 256 million euros to respond to the existing qualitative deficit of 40 thousand houses.
