Africa-Press – Cape verde. Passenger movement exceeded 200 thousand people at Cape Verde’s airports and airfields in the month of September, 10.1% more year-on-year, according to the most recent statistical data from the Civil Aviation Agency, which Lusa had this Friday fair access.
International passengers represented around 60% of total movement in September, with year-on-year growth of 13.75%, while, domestically, the number of users fell slightly (-0.8%).
In terms of cargo, movement grew 11.7% compared to September 2022, to a total of 73.5 tons.
These numbers are based on a monthly movement of 2,348 aircraft, 1.8% more year-on-year.
Cape Verde’s airports and airfields are on track to end the year with a higher performance than in 2022.
Until September, all indicators reveal a movement greater than that recorded in the first nine months of last year.
The most significant increase in the period concerns the number of passengers: around 1.9 million this year, until September, 22% more than in the same period in 2022.
There is also growth of 13% in aircraft movement, a further 10% in cargo and 6% in mail.
Despite the recovery, the indicators are still below those recorded in the first nine months of 2019, the last year before the covid-19 pandemic left almost all of the world’s aviation on the ground.
The Cape Verdean Government announced in July the concession of the public airport service to the Vinci group, with the aim of “expanding and modernizing” the country’s four international airports and three aerodromes, with an investment of 928 million euros, over 40 years.
Works should begin in the coming months.
The State will receive the equivalent of 80 million euros and the operator will also have to pay a percentage of gross revenues annually, 2.5% in the first 20 years, rising to 7% in the last 10 years.
Vinci operates in the country through Cabo Verde Airports, a company that will be exempt from various taxes in the archipelago for 15 years.
