Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde will face Cameroon, Angola, Libya, Etswatini and Mauritius, in group D, of the qualifying games for the 2026 football world cup, according to the draw carried out by CAF. Qualifying matches run from November 2022 to October 2025.
The 54 African countries, according to the new regulations, were divided into nine groups of six teams (group A to I) and the winners of each group automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The four best runners-up will compete in a final-four where the team that will represent Africa in an intercontinental play-off will be decided, which could increase the number of African countries in the World Cup to 10.

Qualifying matches will start in November 2023 and run until October 2025, with each team playing one game at home and one game away, for a total of 10 rounds.
The final phase of the 2026 Mundial will be played from June 8 to July 19, 2026 in Canada, the United States of America and Mexico and will feature, for the first time, 48 teams, nine from the African continent, whereas before they were five.

Group D: Cameroon, Cape Verde, Angola, Libya, Eswatini, Mauritius;
Group E: Morocco, Zambia, Congo, Tanzania, Niger, Eritrea;
Group F: Ivory Coast, Gabon, Kenya, Gambia, Burundi, Seychelles;
Group G: Algeria, Guinea, Uganda, Mozambique, Botswana, Somalia;
Group H: Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, Namibia, Malawi, Liberia, Sao Tome and Principe;
Group I: Mali, Ghana, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros and Chad.
